XTAR VC2 is a two-channel charger for lithium-ion (Li-ION) cells with a micro-USB power input. Each channel is independent. The VC2 features a large LCD screen showing charging voltage and current. The charger also shows the capacity being delivered to the cell and displays the result on the screen.

The charging algorithm used in the VC2 charger is TC/CC/CV. It is a charging process for Li-ION cells to ensure good cell condition. It involves charging with the right current and also completing the charge at the right time. TC/CC/CV charging stages, we can divide into:

• TC stage: the initial phase of checking and reactivating a cell whose voltage has dropped below 2.9V
• CC stage: then the cell is charged with a constant current of 50mA to 500mA (depending on the connected power source).
• CV stage: then the charger switches to charging with decreasing current until the cell voltage reaches 4.2V. When the cell voltage reaches 4.2V, charging is complete and the battery is fully charged.

When you leave the cell in the charger it will self-discharge. However, if the voltage on the battery drops below 3.9V, charging will start automatically. Reactivating discharged cells involves inserting the cell into the charger and checking the voltage. With this function, we can check each cell in the appropriate size. When a discharged cell is detected, the charger will attempt to reactivate it. Note that exceeding the minimum voltage on the cell will limit the possibility of reactivating and saving such a battery.

Since we do not receive a power supply in the kit, the charger will be connected via a micro-USB cable. Any wall charger with USB or from a phone, but also a computer with a USB port will suffice to power it. The recommended power of the charger is 2000mA.
