Button watch batteries

The button watch batteries available at the BTO store include a wide range of silver batteries and alkaline batteries from respected brands Maxell, Vinnic, Duracell, Energizer or Renata and other recognized suppliers. High-quality batteries are used to power quartz watches, calculators, small remote controls, bicycle counters, elements of SSWiN systems and other small electronic accessories and devices.

It is worth noting that although batteries for hearing aids have a similar design, you will find cells dedicated to powering them in a dedicated category of the BTO store.

What is the difference between alkaline and silver watch batteries?

The main difference between alkaline batteries and silver watch batteries is due to the use of a different type of cathode.

Alkaline watch batteries have a cathode made of powdered manganese dioxide (MnO2) and an anode made of zinc. The voltage of the cell is 1.5 volts.

Watch silver batteries have been equipped with a silver oxide cathode and a zinc anode. They have a longer service life than alkaline watch batteries, and their voltage rating is 1.55 V.

Add that in both cases the technology involves the use of the same type of electrolyte, which is a potassium hydroxide solution. It should be noted that these are disposable cells and cannot be recharged in a charger!

How to properly select watch batteries for a watch?

In order to select the right watch battery for your watch, we recommend checking the symbol on the old battery. If it is impossible to read the inscription correctly, you can also measure the size of the old cell and select a new one based on this. The last way is to visit a watchmaker's shop and ask for advice.

It is worth knowing that button silver and alkaline batteries are used in several types of watches: analog quartz watches, digital quartz watches (so-called electronic watches) and hybrid watches, combining the innovative functions of a smartwatch and a traditional analog clock.
